Understand the condition descriptions before choosing a used IBC tote. Ask for the preparation and history of the specific lot.

A used or unwashed tote may contain residue from its previous contents. Ask what it held, whether the container is drained and what cleaning remains necessary. A used label does not describe every container’s condition.
Rinsed
Rinsing is a preparation step. It does not by itself establish sterilization, removal of every contaminant or suitability for food or drinking-water use. Ask what rinse process was performed and what records are available.
Cleaned or reconditioned
These descriptions should be tied to an actual process. Request the offered lot’s cleaning, inspection and component-replacement details. Do not assume a rinsed unit has undergone a complete reconditioning program.
Food-grade versus non-food-grade
Food-grade descriptions require context: original construction, prior contents, subsequent handling and documentation all matter. Non-food-grade units should be evaluated for the stated industrial application. Confirm suitability of the bottle, valve and seals.
What to request with your quote
Ask for current photos, capacity, prior contents, preparation details, outlet and cap information, any known damage and the available documentation. Describe your intended use so the selection can be reviewed.
