275-Gallon Food-Grade IBC Totes

A 275 gallon food grade tote is the compact caged IBC whose previous contents were food, beverage or ingredient products, with an HDPE bottle suitable for food contact. It is the starting point for smaller producers who need a cleaner history, provided they confirm suitability for their own product.

What "food grade" means for a 275 gallon tote

Food grade here describes history and material. The tote previously held food, beverage or ingredient contents, and the inner bottle is HDPE suitable for food contact. It does not mean the tote is ready to take your product the day it arrives. A second-use container still needs you to confirm what it held, how it was cleaned and whether it meets the requirements of your application and any regulations that apply to you.

We do not represent our stock as carrying FDA approval, third-party food-equipment listings, drinking-water approval or UN/DOT retest status. What we can do is tell you the lot's history as we know it, show you current photos and confirm details in writing with your quote.

Why smaller operations favor the 275 food grade tote

The compact size fits a specific kind of buyer. Craft beverage makers, sauce and syrup producers, bakeries with liquid ingredients, and farm processors often work in volumes where 275 gallons empties in a reasonable time. That matters for food products: less time in the tote means less time for quality to drift once it is open.

The physical size helps too. At approximately 40 × 48 inches and about 46 inches tall, the 275 fits through more doorways and under more ceilings in small production rooms, and its lower top opening (commonly 6 inches with a screw cap) is easier to inspect and clean by hand. Empty, it weighs about 135 lb on a pallet base you can move with a pallet jack.

The grade-wide pages cover each path in more depth: used food-grade IBC totes and reconditioned food-grade IBC totes.

Five steps before putting product in

  1. Match the history. Ask what the lot held. A tote that carried a sweetener is a different starting point from one that carried an oil or a flavoring, especially for allergen and odor carryover.
  2. Inspect the bottle. Look for scoring, staining, cracks and any lingering smell through the top opening. Request close-up photos if you are buying remotely.
  3. Check wetted parts. The discharge valve (commonly a 2-inch butterfly or ball valve), cap and gaskets touch your product. Decide whether to replace them; caps, gaskets and valves are available through our IBC fittings and adapters.
  4. Clean and sanitize to your standard. Use your own validated process, not an assumption that the tote arrived clean.
  5. Document it. Keep lot history, photos and your cleaning record together for your own food safety program.

Our food and beverage handling guide goes further into these points. If a lot's history does not line up with your product, it is better to pass on that lot and wait for a closer match than to try to clean your way past an incompatible prior use.

275 food grade compared with nearby options

Versus the 330 gallon food grade tote: same grade logic, but the 330 is about 53 inches tall and roughly 150 lb empty. Larger operations with forklifts and pallet racking tend to prefer it for volume per footprint; smaller rooms and hand-cleaning favor the 275.

Versus the 275 gallon non food grade tote: identical size, different history. If your use is irrigation, wash water or industrial liquids, the non-food-grade listing is often the more economical choice and gives up nothing you need.

Delivery, pickup and volume orders

Food grade 275s are available for pickup by arrangement at our Pennsville, NJ and Tampa, FL yards, or by LTL freight quoted to your ZIP. Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 275 gallon food grade tote safe for my product?

It depends on your product and the tote's history. Food grade on this site means the tote previously held food, beverage or ingredient contents in an HDPE bottle suitable for food contact. You still need to confirm previous contents, clean and sanitize to your standard, and check any regulatory requirements for your application.

Do your food grade totes carry FDA approval?

We do not claim FDA approval, third-party food-equipment listings or drinking-water approval for our stock. We describe the lot history as we know it, provide current photos on request and confirm lot details with your quote. Buyers are responsible for deciding whether a tote is suitable for their product and process.

Should I replace the valve and gaskets on a food grade tote?

Many food buyers do, because the valve, cap and gaskets contact the product directly and can hold residue. Replacement valves, caps and gaskets are available as accessories. Ask about the condition of these parts when requesting a quote so you can plan replacements before first use.

What did your 275 gallon food grade totes previously hold?

Previous contents vary by lot and can include food, beverage or ingredient products. Tell us what you plan to store and we will tell you what we know about the lot being offered. Matching the old and new contents reduces flavor, odor and allergen carryover concerns.

Can I get just a few 275 gallon food grade totes?

Yes. Smaller quantities can be picked up by arrangement in Pennsville, NJ or Tampa, FL, or shipped by LTL freight quoted to your ZIP code. Full truckloads of about 60 totes are quoted individually, and higher quantities lower the per-tote price.
