Reconditioned Food-Grade IBC Totes

Reconditioned food grade IBC totes combine a food, beverage or ingredient service history with cleaning/rinsing and inspection before sale. They are the most prepared option in the caged range for buyers who want less work on arrival, while still confirming suitability for their own food-related application.

What makes a tote reconditioned food grade

Each half of the name carries a specific meaning on this site. Food grade means the tote's history is food, beverage or ingredient contents and the HDPE inner bottle is suitable for food contact. Reconditioned, which we use interchangeably with "rinsed," means the tote has been cleaned/rinsed and inspected before it is offered. The exact preparation and any component work, such as a replacement valve or gasket, can differ from lot to lot, so ask what was done on the lot you are quoted.

A reconditioned food grade IBC tote is the closest thing in the caged range to a ready-to-use food-side container, but "closest" is the important word. It is not a new tote, it is not represented as carrying any regulatory or third-party food approval, and it is not offered as approved for drinking water. Whether it is suitable for your product, and what further sanitizing your process needs, is your call.

Picking a size

The 275 gallon tote is approximately 40 × 48 × 46 in and about 135 lb empty. The 330 gallon tote is approximately 48 × 40 × 53 in and about 150 lb empty. Shorter 275s are easier to fill from the top and fit lower racking; 330s hold more in the same floor space. Compare 275 gallon reconditioned totes and 330 gallon reconditioned totes to see both side by side.

Your checklist before food-related use

  1. Confirm the previous contents of the lot and whether they are compatible with your product, including allergen concerns.
  2. Ask what preparation was done: how it was rinsed, what was inspected, and whether the valve, cap or gaskets were replaced.
  3. Request current lot photos of the bottle interior, valve and cage. Photos on the site are representative.
  4. Apply your own sanitizing step to the standard your process or regulator requires.
  5. Check the regulations that apply to your product and facility; the food and beverage handling guide walks through the questions to ask.

Lots, quantities and repeat orders

Food-side producers often need the same tote again next season. Because stock comes from service returns, lots differ in history and preparation, so treat each order as its own review: ask for the history and current photos each time rather than assuming a repeat order matches the last one. Larger quantities lower the per-tote price, and mixing 275 and 330 gallon totes in one order is a reasonable request if your floor plan calls for both.

Construction and handling

Typical caged totes have an HDPE bottle inside a galvanized steel tubular cage on a steel, plastic or composite pallet base, a top fill opening with a screw cap (commonly 6") and a bottom discharge valve (commonly 2" butterfly or ball). They move with a forklift or pallet jack and stack when empty, and often when filled within the rating on the unit's label.

How to order or get pricing

Tell us the size, condition (reconditioned), grade (food grade), quantity, intended use and delivery ZIP using the request a quote form, or call 484-787-7479. Your quote confirms availability, price and what preparation was done on the offered lot, and we can send current photos before you commit. Pickup is available by arrangement at Pennsville, NJ and Tampa, FL; LTL freight covers smaller orders and full truckloads of about 60 totes are quoted individually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are reconditioned food grade totes sanitized and ready for food?

They are cleaned/rinsed and inspected before sale, which removes most of the work. They are not represented as sanitized to any particular food standard. Confirm the previous contents and preparation, then apply your own sanitizing step and check any rules that apply to your product.

What does reconditioned mean compared with rinsed?

On this site the two terms describe the same range: totes that have been cleaned/rinsed and inspected before sale. The specific preparation and any component work can vary by lot, so ask what was done on the totes offered in your quote.

Do these totes carry a food safety approval?

No such approval is claimed. Food grade here means a food, beverage or ingredient service history and an HDPE bottle suitable for food contact. Buyers are responsible for confirming suitability, checking previous contents and meeting any regulatory requirements that apply to their product and facility.

Are the valves and caps replaced on reconditioned totes?

It depends on the lot. Some totes may have components replaced during reconditioning and others keep their original parts after inspection. Ask when you request a quote, and replacement valves, caps and gaskets are available if you want new parts.

Can I see the actual totes before buying?

Yes. We can send current photos of the offered lot before you order, since photos on the site are representative. Pickup by arrangement at our Pennsville, NJ or Tampa, FL yard is another way to see the totes in person.
